“All alone…come”

My two-year old granddaughter reminded me that God said that it is not good for man to be alone. My wife and I have enjoyed the various stages of life. You have heard, “First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage.” We are way beyond that in our life stages.  God has blessed us in permitting our daughter and her husband to live near us. Early on they presented us with five wonderful grandchildren. When the youngest of the five was sixteen, we were all surprised with a bonus…little Abigail, a real delight!

During the Christmas holidays the family watched “101 Dalmatians” together. The next day Abby wanted to watch it again. She climbed up in Daddy’s big chair to watch the movie with him. Later Daddy went out to put wood in the wood burner, leaving Abby alone at the scary part in the story where the puppies were about to be captured. Abby was uncomfortable watching it alone, so she went to the kitchen where Mother was sewing. She put her hand on Mother’s arm and said, “All alone…come.” Of course, Mother came.

During 85 years of life, there have been some scary times. I have always encouraged my grandchildren with Jesus’ words that tell us that He will never forsake us. It‘s true! The hymn writer said, “No, never alone. No, never alone. He promised never to leave me, Never to leave me alone.” The Psalmist said, “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. (Ps. 23:4)

Many of the children who have come to Baptist Children’s Home seemed all alone in the world. But God worked, and it became evident later that He had worked to provide for them and bring good out of bad situations. I look forward to the future, knowing that God will never leave me, nor forsake me.
